WTF IS ON THE MIC??
At the risk of sounding totally full of myself and pretentious and super annoying, On The Mic is a whole bunch of things. You kinda just have to read it to understand.
The Backstory
I started On The Mic sometime towards the middle of 2007, halfway out of boredom and halfway out of the need to publicly write things down again, since I’ve been blogging on and off for over ten years, but hadn’t really been good about it for a long time. It started out as a personal blog, about my life and my adventures whatever whatever, but I just wasn’t very good at keeping it updated.
Then, the Olympics rolled around, and I found my motivation to write and post and get traffic over here. That was great, but the Olympics only last for two weeks every four years so…………
So I started writing about the election and doing THAT whole thing, which was great at keeping me motivated as a blogger and not letting this blog fall by the wayside, AND simultaneously getting me to really pay attention to politics, which was really, really good for me. UNTIL my friend Kim and I launched Aspirations of Olyvil (check out the blogroll, guys, theres some good stuff in there), which actually got weirdly popular really fast and kinda took over as my main blog, and is still where most of my writing ends up.
Poor On The Mic, right?! All dressed up and nowhere to go.
SO THEN, I got this gig with an innernet radio station, doing a show for them two times a week called the 9am Coffee Break. THAT was actually a lot of fun, and On The Mic kinda became my MUSIC blog where I’d post my shows and tracklists and I did that whole thing for a while. The station and I kinda parted ways at the very end of 2008, and I decided that I was gonna continue doing podcasts for On The Mic, and keep this going as a music blog.
But then, I didn’t really have a place to write about myself, which is kind of important to me since I’m kind of my own biggest fan.
So, I had it all planned out:
- On The Mic = Music Blog
- OlyVil = Politics/Entertainment Blog
- Tumblr = Personal Blog.
Really? Three blogs? I’m not even good at updating ONE blog. Plus, Tumblr is KIND OF annoying and just wasn’t the right platform for what I want to do.
SO. This is a whole lot of words that aren’t explaining anything:
No, seriously, wtf is On The Mic
I DONT KNOW, MAN. WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME? For now, until I get bored, it’s partly a personal blog, partly a music blog and podcast, partly my place to SPAZ OUT about crap. Like I said, you kinda just have to read it to get it.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy and I love getting feedback, so leave me some comments and tell me what you wanna see here, since I am nothing if not an internet entertainer.
